Set up GitHub
Purpose
In this tutorial you will learn how to set up an account for GitHub.
By the end of this project you should have an understanding of:
- What GitHub is
- How to create an account
Step 1: Create acccount
Go to GitHub.com.
On the first screen create an account with your username, email and password that you use for the school computers.
Your username should be your username that you use for the computers. If that is taken then use one of the other options that Github reccomends. Your email should be the email address you use for the school ending in @students.psd1.org.
Your password should be the password you use for the computer twice (for example, if your computer password is hdt492, you would use hdt492hdt492).
Click "Sign up for GitHub" to continue to the next page.
Step 2: Choose account type
On the next page it will ask you what kind of account you want. You will choose the free option
Step 3: Skip survey
On the next page it will ask you what your account is used for. You can scroll to the bottom of the page and choose "skip this step".
Step 4: Verify email
On the next page it will tell you that your email needs to be verified. You will need to log into Outlook Online.
The email will likely be in the Junk folder so check there.
Click the link in your email to verify the account and your GitHub account will be created.
